Worcester Model Railroaders is a group of model railroad enthusiasts who build, operate, and share a detailed model railroad layout. Our layout brings the railroad experience to life with realistic trains, scenery, industries, towns, operations, and stories inspired by the railroads of New England.

We operate trains whenever possible, but the exact activity can vary depending on the day. Some visits may feature trains running continuously, while special operating sessions put the railroad into a more structured schedule with crews, freight movements, and destinations.

No! Model railroading is a hobby for all ages. Kids can enjoy watching the trains and discovering the scenery, while adults can appreciate the railroad operations, craftsmanship, history, and technical details behind the layout.

Absolutely. There is much more to model railroading than laying track. Members contribute in many different ways, including scenery, structures, electronics, operations, maintenance, photography, research, and more.

You don't have to know everything when you start. That's what the railroad community is for.

We are open to the public every Tuesday night 6:00pm-9:00pm & Saturday morning 9:00am-12:00pm.

Definitely not! Our railroad is more than circles. Trains have destinations, crews have jobs, industries need shipments, and every part of the layout tells a story. What may look like a simple train ride is actually a miniature railroad operating as a living world.

An operating session is when we run the model railroad much like a real railroad. Trains are assigned jobs, freight needs to be moved, and crews follow schedules and instructions to get the job done.

That's up to you! You can get a quick overview of the railroad, but if you take your time and start looking at the details, you'll find plenty to explore. And don't be surprised if you see something you missed the first time.
